| Passive safety systems protect you
once an accident has already happened. The active
safety system ESP helps to prevent accidents.
ESP helps to improve vehicle behavior considerably
in all critical driving maneuvers by stabilising
the vehicle. It unites four essential safety components:
the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic
Brake-force Distribution (EBD), the Electronic
Differential Lock (EDL) and the Traction Control
(ASR) system, and combines these with a yawing
moment controller.
The system makes sure that the vehicle retains
its cornering and directional stability in all
situations. The car’s driving condition and
the driver’s actions are monitored 25 times
a second. Instability, oversteer and understeer
are immediately registered and corrected.
ESP intervenes until the vehicle has regained
its stability. In this way it makes the car’s
handling performance safer all round and enables
the driver to enjoy maximum driving pleasure at
a high level of safety – even in adverse
weather conditions.
