The Audi Space Frame is a frame structure
into which the panels are integrated, where they
have a load-bearing function. This provides the
basis for optimum lightweight construction in combination
with an extremely high standard of comfort, quality
and safety. Thanks to a weight reduction of up to
40 percent compared with modern steel bodies, the
all-aluminium body offers a particularly high degree
of rigidity. The reduction in weight and, consequently,
in unsprung mass helps to improve the car’s
running characteristics and suspension behavior–
and therefore ride comfort and handling. Aluminium
also offers clear advantages from an ecological
point of view: thanks to the body’s low weight
and suitability for recycling, the energy input
during production is compensated for after around
just 60,000 kilometers. |
